Insert Picture popup window

Name -

Class - This allows you to call a Stylesheet class to govern the page. The default class is 'page' - Please contact the Site Administrator before changing the class.

Title - The title should reflect the content of the picture. The picture title also appears as alternative text should the picture not appear and as a title when the cursor is hovered over the picture.

NB New laws governing the accessibility of websites now require that all pictures have alternative text associated with them. Alternative text is read by screen readers (like Jaws) so that users can understand what picture is on the screen.

Picture - To insert a prepared picture, click on the Browse button, which will give you access to your computer’s files. Now locate your picture and click the Open button.

Pictures have a suggested size of 200 pixels wide by 200 pixels high but can be changed to suite the situation. Leaving the resize option selected will cause any pictures that are bigger than the maximum size to be resized and resampled when they are uploaded. Pictures that are smaller than the maximum size will not be affected.

There are limitations on size and format - Please see Appendix 1 for some suggestions.

Picture showing Float Left and Float Right alignment

Alignment - This allows you to select how you want the element aligned on the page and how it will affect any elements below it. Choosing Left, Center or Right will position the element accordingly and any element below it will stay below it. Choosing Float Left will position the element to the left of the page and any element below it will be pulled up to the top of it on the right. Choosing Float Right will position the element to the right of the page and any element below it will be pulled up to the top of it on the left.

Style - If your Site Administrator has set up different text styles for you to use they will appear here ready for you to select. If the style box is not visible then none have been set up. Please contact the Site Administrator to request a style.

Description - Enter a brief description to be associated with this picture. Make it short, attractive and as descriptive as possible.

Check Spelling - Clicking on the Check Spelling button will open up a separate ‘Speller Pages’ popup window. You will be offered the chance to change any words not found in the dictionary. Should no misspellings be found then you will be given a message to that effect.

Show Description - The default selection is No! Click Yes if you want the description to appear under the element. This is a good way of telling your visitors what the picture is about.

External Web Link - To make the picture a hyperlink to another website enter the website’s address here. E.g. www.example.com

or Link to Page - To make the picture a hyperlink to another page within the existing website click on the dropdown box and select the appropriate page title.

Open in New Window - The default selection is No, which means the hyperlinks will open in the same window. Click Yes to force the hyperlink to open in a new browser window.

NB It is best practice to open other websites in a new window and pages from the existing website in the same window.

Locked - Default is No which allows the element to be changed by other users (eg Page Editors). Selecting Yes will lock the element so that only Site Editors and Site Administrators can edit them.

This is a useful feature if you have an element that you don't want to be altered by mistake.

Parent Page Position - This determines the position that the element will have on the web page. Every element has a number, which governs the overall layout of the page. By changing the Parent Page Position you can quickly determine where this element should sit on the page. Leaving this as - default - will add the element as the last one on the page.

Click the Save button to save the element. Or click the Cancel button to cancel it.
